Mychel "Snoop" Dillard confirms death of daughter Katara in heartbreaking post

 Katara Dillard was in her early twenties at the time of her death.

While Snoop has been successfully building her businesses behind-the-scenes for over a decade, she rocketed to public prominence after partnering with Grammy Award-winning rapper 2 Chainz. The rapper was one of many who paid tribute to the late Katara Dillard.

Mychel “Snoop” Dillard had her daughter aged 15

When Mychel Dillard was just 15 years old, she gave birth to her daughter, Katara. Katara was her only child. “It made me grow up rather quickly,” Dillard told Business Insider in their profile on her. Eventually, Dillard had to give Katara to foster care during which time she obtained her degree.

Snoop fulfilled her dreams of getting into Business School at Vanderbilt University by the age of 16. She had graduated by 20, crediting her desire to regain custody of Katara as motivation for obtaining her degree. Within one week of her graduation, Snoop was reunited with her daughter. “It was something that I had looked forward to and thought about for so many years,” she told Insider.

Snoop also revealed that she intended for Katara to take over her business empire one day.

Snoop confirms Katara Dillard passed “peacefully” during sleep

On Tuesday, October 4, Mychel Dillard confirmed the news that her daughter had passed away. Snoop released a statement to Instagram, which was also reposted to several of her restaurants, including Esco Seafood which she runs with 2 Chainz.

“With much love and gratitude from The Dillard Hospitality Group family, it is with a heavy heart that we announced the passing of our beloved Katara “Plum” Dillard. An amazing, care free spirit, filled with life, love, and laughter gained her heavenly wings peacefully while she slept,” the statement reads.

2 Chainz reposted the tribute on Esco Bar Atlanta’s Instagram to his IG Stories with the added caption: “Rest In Peace KT.”

Earlier this year, on February 2, Mychel “Snoop” Dillard tied the knot with Sidney Dean. The paid had been dating for two years before they wed and celebrated their anniversary on June 30.

As news of Katara Dillard’s death was confirmed, Sidney took to social media to pay tribute to her late step-daughter.

On October 4, 2022, Sidney posted a picture of herself with Katara captioning the post: “I will never get over losing you. I was so proud to be your bonus mom.”
