Nelson Branco, Journalist, Writer, and Editor in the soap opera industry has passed away. He was a rabid fan of the soap opera genre and was a gifted writer and editor. The circumstances regarding the death of Nelson Branco was not released. Nelson Branco’s controversial, but always entertaining, perspectives on the soap opera world in various Canadian media outlets were part of what made daytime dramas appealing to many fans over the years.
Shaun Proulx shared on social media that he noticed the absence of Branco on Twitter and emailed him to check in on him, but there was no response so he felt something was wrong. Proulx said Branco was many things to him, as they were both rabid fan of the soap opera genre , they spent hours analyzing The Young and the Restless together over the years.
Shaun Proulx continued that Nelson was wonderful to gossip with and share a smoke. He described Nelson Branco as a gifted writer and editor. They had both worked together many times over the years. “He was a champion of my work, and my editor during my ride as columnist writing Spirit & The City (and other PostMedia pieces) and he called upon me to join Shinan Govani to tape video commentaries on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills most recently,” Shaun Proulx wrote.
According to Shaun Proulx, Nelson spoke his mind even when what he had to say was abrasive, but was very sensitive, exceptionally bright and fast. He was a true Gemini – you were never sure what you’d get from him.
According to Nelson Branco Facebook page, he was a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, but resides in Toronto, Ontario. He studied at Ryerson University, Toronto, ON, and was a former Writer at CTV News Channel.
